Sts. Peter and Paul Academy is a Private, Independent, Catholic Elementary School.

An Introduction
A Chartered Nonpublic Catholic School
-
The School is modeled after Mother Teresa Catholic Elementary
School in Liberty Township. (Board of Directors, follow Archdiocese curriculum, follow State of Ohio curriculum, etc.).
-
The school is a Corporation and ran by a Board of Directors.
-
The school is operating as a 501(c)3 (non-profit).
-
We are now getting state reimbursement and auxiliary services.
-
State of Ohio offers busing and special education.
-
The Academy has been issued its Charter from the State of Ohio Dept. of
Education. The Academy operated under a Letter of Approval by the State during
its first year, 2007-2008.
-
SPPA is now a recognized affiliated school by the Archdiocese. We
are following their
Curriculum/ Graded Course of Study.
Role of Sts. Peter and Paul Parish
Sts. Peter and Paul Academy will
be totally independent of any parish. A
pastor has no say in anything having to do with the Academy’s day-to-day
operations. The Board of Directors may ask the pastor of the neighboring church to attend the Board meetings.
The pastor of the neighboring parish is involved in
administering the sacraments to our children.
Role of the Archdiocese
The Academy follows the
Archdiocesan Graded Course of Study.
We are now a recognized affiliated school by
the Archdiocese and a minimal fee
is assessed annually by the Archdiocese on a per/pupil basis.
We are officially recognized as a Catholic elementary school.
Tuition/ Admissions
Tuition for grades K-8 for 2010-2011 is $2,390.
Children from any parish are permitted to attend.
A child or their family does not have to be Catholic for their child to
attend.
An application for financial aid will need to be completed by those
families wishing to request financial assistance.
Anyone who requests financial assistance will not receive total tuition
coverage. An independent company
will be accessing the financial information and will make recommendations to one
of the Co-Treasurers on the Executive Board of Directors. We will continue to work hand-in-hand with TAPCE in hopes their
fundraising efforts will lower the cost of tuition.
Parents or guardians must agree to
a minimum of 30 hours/year of volunteer work for their child(ren) to be enrolled. Since we
are now a private academy, the Board of Directors can require parents/guardians
to participate in volunteer positions in order for their child(ren) to attend
the Academy.

Curriculum
We are using the Archdiocesan Graded Course of
Study as the basic curriculum.
Religion is
a core subject at Sts. Peter and Paul Academy. Prayer is a part
of everyday at this school. It is planned that the children will continue to go
to Mass weekly and on Holy Days. Presently, the Archbishop has granted SPPA
permission to hold Mass twice a month at the Academy. Guest Priests are invited
to say Mass in the gymnasium and the community is invited to attend. The
services are always spirit filled as Mr. Humphreys provides piano accompaniment
to the children's choir.
Enrichment classes such as Science
lab, Art, Technology, Music, Foreign Language, Public Speaking will be
incorporated into the Curriculum as teachers, parents, students, and volunteers
from the community want to develop these.
We currently incorporate members of
our surrounding community to act as role models for our children.
Working with MND, Moeller, St. Xavier, Reading High School, as well as
senior citizen groups, we will request the leaders from these organizations act
as tutors, mentors, readers, provide leadership workshops, etc. for our
children.
Sts. Peter and Paul Academy will
strive towards a community enhanced, faith-filled, well-rounded and balanced
curriculum that will develop the whole child.
Opening Date
August 2007 was our opening school
year. We operated under a Letter of Approval from the State of Ohio Department
of Education for the first year. After much hard work and effort, mounds of
paperwork and site visitations, Sts. Peter and Paul Academy received their
School Charter from the State in June 2008. Sts. Peter and Paul Academy became
officially recognized as a Catholic elementary school by the Archdiocese of
Cincinnati by Archbishop Daniel Pilarczyk on December 9th, 2009.
Class Sizes
Initially, we hope to have one
class per grade unless enrollment demands more than one. The
Board of Directors has set a limit of 20 students per class. This will be
flexible as the school grows and siblings are brought into the school.
Athletics
The Athletic Board at Sts. Peter
and Paul Parish still plans to offer the same sports programs as they always have.
Currently students who attend SPPA are eligible to play for the Parish team in
Softball, Baseball, Basketball, Football and Volleyball.
Computers/Technology
We are pleased to have a dedicated
computer lab along with a qualified and certified computer teacher, Nicole
Burke. Along with the lab, each classroom has individual computers. The Academy
has also purchased a smart board and is happy to be able to teach the children
lessons on this interactive computer.
Hot Lunches
A hot lunch program was initiated
the first year at SPPA. However, more students wanted to bring their lunches and not
enough students or families were interested in the program, so it ended.
For the 2009-2010 school year, if
the parents and students are interested, the hot lunch program will be brought
back. This is a decision made by the current parents and Parent's Club.
Currently the children have Pizza
brought in on each Wednesday. Volunteers serve the hot lunch. This
school year, there is also hot lunch available every Monday consisting of
a different menu. Please see the enclosure in the Family Envelope each week for
what is offered.
Milk is available every day, as is
a cold drink machine serving water.
School Hours
School hours are 8am-2:45pm.
